Use SUI staking rewards to pay for AI

Not yet. Gatewayz yield-as-inference supports only ADA today, and SUI is on the coming list. The plan is to turn Sui staking rewards into the same kind of AI inference discount. Sui fits the model closely: staked SUI is wrapped in a self-custodial stake object the holder owns, epochs last 24 hours, and principal is not slashed.

You cannot use SUI staking rewards to pay for AI on Gatewayz yet: SUI is a coming asset, and the program runs on ADA only. The plan is to turn Sui's native staking rewards into the same kind of inference discount ADA holders get, without taking custody. Sui allows that: staked SUI is wrapped in a self-custodial stake object that stays in the holder's own wallet.

Pre-launch. The program is built and switched off on mainnet. A working demo runs on Cardano's preprod testnet with test ADA, by invitation. Not available to US or Canadian persons. Every participant must confirm they are not a US or Canadian person before linking a wallet.

How does native SUI staking work?

A holder stakes SUI to a validator's staking pool through the system Move package. In return, the SUI is wrapped in a stake object owned by the holder, which records which pool it is staked to and the epoch it activates.

Because the stake object sits in the holder's own wallet, Sui staking is non-custodial, close to how Cardano delegation works. The difference is that the SUI is wrapped while staked rather than freely spendable.

Rewards are calculated per 24-hour epoch and paid out at the end of each epoch through the pool's exchange rate. Stake earns only for epochs in which it is active for the whole epoch.

How long does it take to unstake SUI?

Stake changes take effect at the next epoch boundary, and Sui epochs are 24 hours, so unstaking is measured in hours rather than weeks. Withdrawing gives back the principal plus rewards.

The Sui docs we checked do not state a minimum stake, so we do not give one.

Principal is not slashed. If a validator is punished for poor performance, it earns no staking rewards for that epoch, and neither do the people staked with it.

How does SUI staking compare with ADA delegation?

Both keep principal in the holder's wallet and away from slashing. SUI is wrapped in a stake object and moves on epoch boundaries; ADA stays spendable.

    SUI (native)ADA (Cardano delegation)
CustodySelf-custodial stake object owned by the holderStays in your wallet; delegation moves nothing
Lock-up / unbondingChanges take effect at the next 24-hour epoch boundaryNone; spend or switch pools at any time
MinimumNot stated in the docs we checkedNone in the sources we checked; a one-time 2 ADA stake address deposit, refunded on deregistration
SlashingPrincipal not slashed; rewards withheld for an epoch if the validator is punishedNone
Reward cadenceEvery 24-hour epoch, through the pool's exchange rate; only for full epochs of active stakeEvery 5-day epoch; first rewards about 15 to 20 days after delegating

What would Gatewayz need to support SUI?

A validator staking pool for holders to stake to, a way to link a Sui wallet to a Gatewayz account, and a way for Gatewayz to receive the rewards it converts. On Cardano the rewards Gatewayz converts arrive as the pool's fees; Sui would need its own equivalent.

Custody fits: the holder owns the stake object, and principal is not slashed, which matches the risk profile of the ADA program more closely than most chains on the list. Short epochs would also make accounting faster than Cardano's five-day cycle. The open trade-off is the one Sui shares with Cardano: a validator that performs poorly earns nothing for that epoch, so there would be nothing to convert. That would be set out on this page and on Risks before launch.

Accounting would follow the ADA model: discount calculated only from rewards Gatewayz has actually received, never in advance.

    What can I use today?

ADA. It is the one asset the program supports: you delegate from your own wallet, your ADA never moves, and rewards become an inference discount. The program is pre-launch, with a working demo on Cardano's preprod testnet by invitation, and is not available to US or Canadian persons. See ADA and all assets.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I use SUI staking rewards to pay for AI on Gatewayz today?

No. SUI is a coming asset and no launch date is set. Today the program supports only ADA, and it is pre-launch.

Is staked SUI still in my wallet?

Yes. Staking wraps your SUI in a self-custodial stake object that you own, which records the validator pool and the epoch the stake activates.

How long does it take to unstake SUI?

Stake changes take effect at the next epoch boundary, and Sui epochs last 24 hours. Withdrawing gives back the principal plus rewards.

    Can staked SUI be slashed?

Principal is not slashed. A validator punished for poor performance earns no staking rewards for that epoch, and neither do its stakers.

When does staked SUI start earning?

Stake earns only for epochs in which it is active for the whole epoch, so a new stake starts earning from its first full epoch. Rewards are paid at the end of each epoch through the pool's exchange rate.
